Poem: The Rain-Soaked Road

A doll with no clothes
was crushed perfectly flat
at the corner
of Maughan and Edgewood.

The shape and the image
were entirely intact,
like a picture
pasted on the pavement.

It lies there alone
on the rain-soaked road
its eyes staring
blankly at heaven,
while the drivers
go by unseeing.

Depending on how
you look at it…

a body shattered in pieces
or a carefully arranged mosaic
