Poem: Fragments

Fragments

The memories of my childhood,
an ancient broken shipwreck,
lie half-buried and decaying
on the ocean floor.

My mind, trying
to recover them,
drops down
through endless dark green water
and grasps a fragment.

Part of a greater whole
that cannot be re-assembled
