Creative process in writing: Becoming a writer

There’s a big difference between
wanting to be a writer
and doing the required preparatory work

Preparatory work includes already having a strong interest in reading and listening to written and spoken content.

Specifically:

A person wanting to be a business writer/journalist, particularly in B2B, will already be reading and/or listening to many business communications media such as business articles, newsletters, podcasts, books, blogs, and websites.

Similarly:

Becoming a novelist requires reading many novels, studying novels and having a strong interest in doing so. ***

Ditto to become a short story writer.

Becoming a poet requires the same type of dedication towards reading and studying poetry.

It’s often the idea of being a writer that people like.

But “walking the talk” not so much.
